Ghorepani Poon hill Trek

Ghorepani Poon hill trek is one of the easiest treks in Nepal. Ghorepani Poon hill which is located in Myagdi district is best treks for the first time trekkers. Poon hill was discovered by Tek Bahadur poon so it was named after his surname Poon. This is obviously the best trek for the first time trekkers and also this trek has no age limit. If you don’t have many days to trek or you want to do a short trek poon hill treks comes at first. With the altitude of 3210m of poon hill there will be no risk of altitude mountain sickness. The translate word of horses and water in nepali is Ghoda and pani respectively. So they named this place as a Ghodepani or Ghorepani. The altitude of this village is 2874m from sea level. It lies in Annapurna Conservation Area. You have to stay at Ghorepani to go to Poonhill in the morning.

In this trek you don’t have to walk for 8-9 hours a day. Only one day you have to walk around 6-7 hours that is from Ghorepani to Tadhapani, otherwise only 4-5 hours walk will take you to the destination. Our trek will start and end at Nayapul but the route will be different you don’t have to return from the same route. You can witness different trails in everyday which will make more interesting and adventurous for the trek. You will walk along with the river, lust forest and rhododendron forest. Poon hill trek is also called as an Annapurna Sunrise Trek because you can see the beautiful sunrise view in Annapurna ranges from Poon Hill. We can see Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m), Annapurna South (7219m), Gangapurna (7455m), Machapuchre (6993m), Hiuchuli (6441m), Nilgiri Himal (7061m), Mardi Himal (5587m) and many more mountains from the poonhill (3210m). Not only is the sunrise you can also see the jaw dropping sunset view from the Poon Hill.

Ghorepani is surrounded by a beautiful rhododendron trees, flowers and if you are lucky then you can also witnesss some species. It only takes around two days to reach at Ghodepani from Pokhara.

You have to take two permits to do Ghodepani Poonhill trek

TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System)

It will cost NPR 2000($17) for Non-SAARC trekkers and NPR 1000 for SAARC trekkers to make a TIMS card.

ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit)

It will cost NPR 3000($27) for Non-SAARC trekkers and NPR 1000 for SAARC trekkers for this permit.

To make a permit you have to give your information, documents (passport, photo, insurance) and cost for permits.

We can do this trek any time; it is an easy, short and sweet trek to do. From January to December every month and every season is suitable to do this trek.

Poonhill trek is one of the easiest treks Nepal. From age 5 to age 80, anyone can do this trek because we can’t get altitude sickness in 3210m high. It is very rare to get AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) in this altitude. With the no age barrier limit and easy trail routes yes you can do this trek with your family.
